Tom Read Wilson’s mum has weighed in on the conversation surrounding her son’s distinctive speaking voice, after I’m A Celebrity viewers were left stunned by his “real” accent this week.
The Celebs Go Dating favourite arrived in camp as one of the late additions alongside Vogue Williams, stepping into the role of Bush Chiefs and quickly becoming a standout thanks to his warmth, humour and total willingness to throw himself into Bushtucker Trials.
But alongside the praise for his kindness and enthusiasm, fans have been buzzing about his remarkably posh accent and expansive vocabulary — something that has always been part of who he is, according to his mum Juliette Cheeseman.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, she said: "He's very articulate. He was born with a dictionary in his mouth. His father is an English teacher, so that's where he gets it from. He doesn't get it from me, unfortunately. But he's always been like that, which is great. Sometimes I don't understand what he says! But it's good."
Proud of how her son is settling into jungle life, she added: "He's just surpassed all my expectations. He's doing so well. I've enjoyed seeing his personality and people starting to see the real Tom — people who haven't seen him before. I just think he's really coming across well, and hopefully that carries on. He's great."
She also admitted she hadn’t realised quite how brave he could be until she watched him on screen. "That thing with the snakes, that was just very brave. I did deep down know he was quite courageous."
With Tom proving to be one of the quieter but more charming personalities in this year’s camp, viewers appear to be warming to him even more now that the story behind his voice — and the family that shaped it — has been shared.
