Imelda May was hospitalised last week but has reassured fans that she is now "fine" and recovering well.

The singer told her followers on social media that she had to go to St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin, but she didn’t say the reason why.

She posted photos of her time in her room while at the hospital along with pictures of the staff who looked after her saying "So I ended up in St Vincent's University Hospital last week for a few days. I'm fine now and healing well but I must say a huge thanks you to all the amazing people that took the best care of me. Absolute legends. Pictures are a few of those legends. Forever grateful. Imelda X.

She added “P.s. I’m fine and resting and with all your warm good vibes flying my way I’ll be fighting fit for play rehearsals next week.”

Fans of the singer were quick to send their messages of support with one fan saying "Get better Imelda May. We need your brilliance." while another added "So sorry to hear you’ve been unwell, Imelda, hope you recover well and quickly! x."

Agreeing with her comments on the hospital staff, Miriam O’ Callaghan posted "They’re amazing! Like yourself Imelda. I hope you are now almost completely better. Sending you hugs."

Imelda was recently reunited on stage with her ex-husband Darrel Higham at the Viva Rockabilly weekend in Las Vegas in front of 10,000 people.

The couple split in 2015 after 13 years of marriage, and share one daughter, Violet.

Darrel said he was delighted to be back up on stage playing with Imelda again. “It was a special show where Imelda went back to her roots playing the rockabilly material she played ten years ago at the start of her career. Everybody loved it.”

And next up for Imelda she will be starring in 'Mother Of All The Behans' in an evening of songs and stories celebrating the life of Kathleen Behan in Waterford in August. The show is adapted and directed for the stage by Peter Sheridan, From the book written by Brian Behan with additional material by Rosaleen Linehan.

It became a hit nationally following sold out performances last summer in Dublin.

Speaking about the show May said: "I’m over the moon to get to reprise my role of Brendan Behan's extraordinary mother Kathleen in Peter Sheridan’s incredible one woman play 'Mother Of All the Behans'. I hold Kathleen’s story very close to my heart as I do all the women’s stories that have shaped the world but are too often unspoken about."

Imelda was also sent to hospital in 2022, after her doctor diagnosed she was suffering from exhaustion and forced her to postpone a gig..

At the time she posted: "I'm getting a flood of well wishes. Thank you so much. I'm not seriously ill. It's what I call 'road rot' lots of bits going wrong. Too often have tests and treatments while going full pace. Physically exhausted. Just following Drs advice and taking time to heal. I won't be long. Imelda."
