Jessie Buckley has clarified comments from a previous interview she made about not being a fan of cats.
This happened after the Oscar nominee's comments about feline friends had resurfaced, leaving cat people unhappy to say the least.
However, the Kerry native clarified these comments on her recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she insisted that she adores cats, so much so that she tried to even be on once, when she auditioned for the 2019 film, Cats, which was based on the beloved West End musical from Andrew Lloyd-Webster.
"I need to clarify something for all cat lovers in the world, right? I am a lover of cats", Buckley told Fallon, which was met with a huge round of applause from the audience.
She continued: "I woke up this morning to the world thinking that I really don't love cats, and it's really weighed on me all day. I felt sick".
"I wanna just tell cat people that I actually auditioned to be a cat once", she joked. "And there's been a misconception because of an interview that I did. They asked me if I was a dog or a cat, and honestly, I think I'm probably a quarter cat and three-quarters dog".
It was at this point that Jessie Buckley revealed that she auditioned for that 2019 movie, Cats, which she said was the "worst audition of my life".
While making a face, Buckley said: "I'm making that face because, honestly, I gave the worst audition of my life. Well, how would you be a cat?".
She added: "I was living with flatmates at the time who did proper jobs, like working for social councils and stuff like that. I came down one morning and was like, "I don't know how to be a cat this morning", and they were like, "Well, Jessie, sometimes you just have to be a cat, you know?".
"I'd done one audition with Tom Hooper, and then I got called back to do a movement session with Wayne McGregor, who is the head choreographer of the Royal Ballet,' Jessie recalled.
"He's got this incredibly sleek, terrifyingly minimalist studio, and when you don't know how to be a cat in the first instance, when you've got nothing around you... I was so hot, I was sweating, I was like licking my paws, I was trying to make leaps", she said. "And it was like, this guy is so beautiful and sleek, and I'm just like a hoof of an Irish woman leaping across and licking her paws,' she laughed. 'Obviously, I didn't get it!'".
News of this comes as Jessie Buckley landed her fourth Best Actress Award at the recent Actor Awards for her role in Hamnet, on top of her nomination for the upcoming Oscar's ceremony. More on this story here.
