Lucy Liu has weighed in on the growing chatter about a new Charlie’s Angels film and whether the original trio — herself, Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diazcould return.

The discussions were sparked by industry reports that Sony Pictures is developing a fresh take on the franchise, with a script currently in the works and rumours swirling that Barrymore, Diaz and Liu might be involved in some capacity.

In an interview given to Entertainement Tonight, Lucy Liu is asked what it would take for a Charlie's Angels reunion.

'Well, it doesn't take a lot. We just had lunch together not long ago, and it was one of the most special times. Let's see! There's always an ellipses.'

This vague statement was enough to fuel - even more - the rumours that a Charlie's Angels remake might be in the works...

The original Charlie’s Angels film franchise centres on three highly skilled private investigators who work for the mysterious Charlie Townsend, a crime-fighting boss whose identity remains largely unseen.

The Angels — originally Dylan, Natalie, and Alex in the 2000 movie — take on dangerous missions, combining intelligence, athleticism, and charm to thwart criminals while maintaining a glamorous, fast-paced style.

The 2000 reboot, directed by McG, mixed action, comedy, and stylish cinematography, offering audiences a modern, high-energy take on the beloved 1970s TV series. It showcased a blend of elaborate fight sequences, witty banter, and high-tech gadgetry, making it a fun, family-friendly action film with strong female leads.

The 2000 Charlie’s Angels was a commercial hit, grossing over $264 million worldwide against a budget of approximately $93 million, and proving that the franchise could thrive in a modern cinematic landscape.

Its success spawned a sequel, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle (2003), which continued the exploits of the Angels with even more elaborate stunts and set pieces, although it received mixed critical reviews.

Both films cemented the franchise as a pop culture phenomenon, notable for revitalizing action-comedy with a female-led ensemble, and helped launch the early-2000s careers of stars like Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu.

Cameron Diaz became one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars following her breakout role in The Mask (1994) and solidified her status with the Charlie's Angels films.

Throughout the 2000s, she balanced action and comedy roles, starring in hits such as Shrek, The Holiday, Vanilla Sky, and My Best Friend’s Wedding, showcasing both her comedic timing and dramatic range.

Diaz consistently commanded high paychecks, often among the top-earning actresses of the decade, and her films collectively grossed billions worldwide.

After a prolific career, she stepped back from acting in the mid-2010s, focusing on business ventures including her health and wellness brand, but left behind a legacy as one of the defining stars of early-2000s cinema.

Drew Barrymore leveraged her child star success into a versatile adult career, blending acting, producing, and directing. Following Charlie's Angels, she starred in romantic comedies like 50 First Dates and Music and Lyrics, while also producing projects such as Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark and the Netflix series Santa Clarita Diet with co-star Timothy Olyphant.

Barrymore also became a prominent figure in lifestyle media, launching her own cosmetics line and daytime talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show, expanding her earnings beyond film.

Her career has been marked by adaptability, allowing her to thrive both in front of and behind the camera while maintaining a beloved public persona.

Lucy Liu carved out a distinctive career through both film and television, becoming known for action-oriented and dramatic roles. After Charlie's Angels, she appeared in films such as Kill Bill: Volumes 1 & 2, Chicago, and Kung Fu Panda (voice work), while gaining critical acclaim on TV with series like Ally McBeal, Elementary, and Why Women Kill.

Liu also ventured into directing and producing, creating her own projects for both the big and small screens.

With a career spanning over three decades, she has established herself as a versatile performer able to balance blockbuster films, independent projects, and television, making her one of the most enduring and respected actresses from the original Charlie’s Angels cast.
