Madonna has led the nominations for this year's MTV Video Music Awards, picking up an impressive 11 nods ahead of Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter.

The 68-year-old singer is already one of the most successful artists in VMA history, with 19 competitive wins to her name.

She could add to that tally at this year's ceremony after receiving nominations across a wide range of categories, including video, artist and song of the year.

Madonna has also been recognised for best collaboration, dance, direction, art direction and cinematography, as well as editing, choreography and visual effects.

The Queen of Pop, whose full name is Madonna Ciccone, is the only artist to have received a VMA nomination in each of the ceremony's five decades.

Her latest nominations come just weeks after the release of her new album Confessions II, a follow-up to her Grammy-winning 2005 record Confessions On A Dance Floor.

Among the tracks recognised this year is Bring Your Love, her collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter.

The song was first performed during Carpenter's headline set at Coachella earlier this year and has received nominations for song of the year and best collaboration.

Taylor Swift follows Madonna with nine nominations, including artist of the year.

Her song The Fate Of Ophelia has also been recognised in categories including video of the year and best pop.

Swift has already won 30 VMAs, tying her with Beyoncé as the ceremony's most-awarded artist.

A win this year would see Swift move ahead and become the most decorated artist in VMA history.

Ariana Grande has received seven nominations, with the singer and actress recognised in categories including best pop, cinematography, direction, editing and visual effects.

Grande recently starred as Glinda in the two-part film adaptation of Wicked and has also announced plans to step back from public life once her current tour comes to an end.

She is tied with Sabrina Carpenter for nominations, with both artists in the running for artist of the year and video of the year.

Bruno Mars 2011

Bruno Mars has picked up five nominations overall and is also among the contenders for artist of the year, alongside country star Morgan Wallen.

Mars is nominated for best R&B for I Just Might, where he will compete against Chris Brown, Dave & Tems, Justin Bieber, Kehlani, Mariah The Scientist and Kali Uchis.

Former One Direction star Harry Styles is nominated alongside Lady Gaga, Doechii, Bebe Rexha and Slayyyter.

Styles has also been recognised for best choreography for Dance No More, where he will compete against artists including Swift.

The former couple briefly dated in 2013.

RAYE

Other nominees include Brat star Charli XCX, Raye, Olivia Dean, Noah Kahan and Sienna Spiro.

Olivia Dean is among 26 artists receiving their first-ever VMA nominations.

Fan voting opens on Tuesday across 13 categories through the official MTV website.

Voting will remain open until September 25 at 6pm ET, with the exception of best new artist, which will remain open until the ceremony.

The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards will take place on September 27 and will be broadcast live on CBS and MTV.

The ceremony will also be available to stream on Paramount Plus, beginning at 7.30pm ET.
