New Netflix film, Bad Bridgets will begin filming across the island of Ireland next month, including an Irish cast and film production professionals.
The movie will star Colin Farrell, Alison Oliver, Domhnall Gleeson, and Simone Kirby, and will shoot on location in Northern Ireland and Ireland in mid July.
Bad Bridgets explores two sisters who begin a dangerous journey to the USA, as they look to escape an abusive father, poverty and hunger. When they arrive in New York, they meet up with a group of Irish women, otherwise known as the "Bridgets", who are causing havoc in the Big Apple.
The film is directed, produced and written by Rich Peppiatt, renowned for writing and directing the film, Kneecap. Peppiatt had won a Bafta award in for Outstanding Debut last year.
Bad Bridgets was developed with support from Queen's University, Belfast, and is produced with support from Northern Ireland Screen, inspired by the literary works by Elaine Farrell and Leanne McCormick.
Northern Irish cinematographer, Ryan Kernaghan is also included on the series. He had previously scooped up a Bafta Award for Photography & Lightening for his work on Trespasses, a Channel 4 adaption of Louise Kennedy's novel, which was set in Northern Ireland during the Troubles.
Niamh Algar, who hails from Mullingar, Co Westmeath had previously starred in crime drama, Calm With Horses, and Channel 4 series, The Virtues.
Cork native, Alison Oliver who is from Ballintemple had starred as Frances in Conversations with Friends, as well as Saltburn and Wuthering Heights.
Simone Kirby who is from Ennis, Co Clare, had starred in Kneecap, Notes on Blindess, Hidden Assets and Calm with Horses. She also boasts a successful career in theatre, having performed in Shakespeare's Globe, The Old Vic, The Gate Theatre and The Abbey Theatre.
Other members added to the cast include Charlie Heaton, Steve Coogan, and Himesh Patel.
