Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee has announced her latest series will premiere next February.

How To Get To Heaven From Belfast was announced by the Derry Girls creator last year, and follows three childhood friends from Belfast who reunite under the tragic death of their fourth friend in their late 30s.

With the lead cast featuring names such as Roisin Gallagher, Caoilfhionn Dunne and Sinead Keenan, Netflix have since announced that more Irish names — including legends of the screen and new faces — have joined the supporting cast.

Art Campion — who people may recognise as the *ahem* good-looking priest in Derry Girls — is joining the cast as Jim, while Tom Basden, whose credits include Plebs, After Life and The Ballad of Wallis Island, has been cast as Seb.

Gangs of London star Michelle Fairley has also joined the cast as Margo, while Josh Finan and Bronagh Gallagher have been cast as Jason and Booker respectively.

Father Dougal Maguire himself, Ardal O’Hanlon, has also joined the cast as Seamus, while Natasha O’Keeffe will play Greta. Emmett Scanlon is also cast as Owen, while Darragh Hand will play Liam.

Describing the show as being about friendship, memory, and what happens when life doesn’t turn out quite like you expected, How To Get To Heaven From Belfast follows clever, chaotic TV writer Saoirse; glamorous, stressed-out mother of three Robyn; and dependable, inhibited carer Dara, who’ve been a tight-knit group since school.

Now in their late 30s, but still as close as ever, the three friends are about to embark on the most thrilling adventure of their lives.

Following an email saying that their estranged fourth friend has died, a series of eerie events at her wake set them on a dark, dangerous and hilarious odyssey through Ireland and beyond as each tries to piece together the truth of their past.

Speaking about the production of the upcoming series, Writer and Executive Producer Lisa McGee said: ‘I couldn’t be more excited to start production on How To Get To Heaven From Belfast.’

‘I’ve loved writing Saoirse, Robyn, and Dara–three flawed, funny women about to embark on the most thrilling and terrifying adventure of their lives.

‘A mystery full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing and make you laugh out loud. Let’s go girls!’

How To Get To Heaven From Belfast will release on Netflix in February 2026.
