The new sci fi film, Disclosure Day carries "more truth than fiction" to the story, according to director Steven Spielberg.

The legendary director stated this while unveiling new footage of the film at Universal's showcase at the annual event for cinema and industry household names, CinemaCon. This took place in Casurs Palace, Las Vegas.

Disclosure Day sees Spielberg return to extra-terrestrial storytelling, close to five decades on from Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Speaking on stage, Spielberg said that this new film may not be as unrealistic as one may think.

Having been fascinated by the genre, Spielberg who called the film an "experience" told the audience that film would both answer questions and leave viewers with more to think about. He also went on to joke that fans would need only a "seatbelt" from start to finish.

"If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? This summer, the truth belongs to seven billion people", a synopsis for the movie reads.  "We are coming close to … Disclosure Day".

Elsewhere, Steven Spielberg was also honoured by the Motion Picture Association, and he used this moment to call for longer exclusive theatrical windows before films move over to streaming platforms. He also praised Universal's continued support to a 45 day theatrical window for wide releases.

He then joked that he was hearing rumours of this being extended to 60 days.

Spielberg's comments comes as studios and cinema chains continue to debate about the best way to protect box office revenues in the streaming eras.

Disclosure Day will hit cinema screens this Summer, and will star Irish actress Eve Hewson, as well as Colin Firth, Emily Blunt and Colman Domingo, based on a story by Spielberg, with a screenplay by David Koepp.
