The director behind the Stranger Things documentary, Martina Radwan, has explained why The Duffer Brothers were still writing the finale's script when filming began.
The documentary, One Last Adventure: The Making Of Stranger Things 5, looked at the final season of the Netflix series, where it was revealed that the creators, The Duffer Brothers were still writing the script for the final episode, a revelation which shocked some fans.
Speaking to BBC News, Radwan said “you can’t write everything ahead of time” and the writing can bring more complications than some might thing.
“I think having access to the writer’s room is a real gift and a privilege that the brothers gave us,” she said, “because I think it’s very easy to think when you write a script, you literally just sit there and write. And it’s like: ‘No, it’s really thinking about a gazillion things, how you interweave all these stories’.
“I mean, this is a massive ensemble cast and to cover 19 character developments, it’s quite a feat and an accomplishment", she added.
In the finale to Stranger Things, Hawkins took on the evil Vecna, played by Jamie Campbell Bower, with some ambiguity regarding the fate of Milly Bobby Brown's character Eleven.
Fans had felt that some plot points were left unanswered, which led to a theory posted online, named Conformity Gate, proposing the idea that a secret, true finale was going to be released a week after the official final episode.
News of the Netflix hit was first announced last week, with a newly released teaser trailer shared, which y0u can check out here.
A trailer for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things also arrived last Summer. The final series was described as "The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown".
"Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will's disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread", the description adds. "The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they've faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time".
