It’s now confirmed that Cillian Murphy will reprise his role as Jim, the character he first played in the 2002 classic 28 Days Later. The new film, The Bone Temple, is a direct sequel to Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later, which hit cinemas earlier this year. While Murphy doesn’t appear in the trailer, details about how his character will return remain under wraps.
The footage showcases the return of Jack O’Connell as Sir Jimmy Crystal, Alfie Williams as Spike, and Ralph Fiennes as Dr Kelson. This chapter dives deeper into Crystal’s twisted cult and Kelson’s dark backstory. According to the official synopsis: “A messenger on a bicycle awakens from a coma to discover that the world has been invaded by zombies following the outbreak of a virus.”

The film was shot back-to-back with 28 Years Later and will see Nia DaCosta directing, while Danny Boyle shifts into a producing role.

Release date: 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple arrives in Irish cinemas on January 16, 2026.
