The X Factor's return to ITV has reportedly been put on hold, with plans for a revival ruled out for the next few years.
It emerged earlier this summer that production company TalkbackThames was pushing for the popular singing competition to make a comeback, potentially involving former head judge Simon Cowell.

However, despite Cowell's continued interest in bringing the show back, insiders say there is currently little appetite for a reboot.
One source said Simon Cowell has made it clear that he is "incredibly keen" to revive the programme and that a return would almost certainly happen one day, but the timing is not right.
"They are always pitching it. It's safe to say that everyone is well aware of Simon's desire to bring it back - he's incredibly keen. But right now, the time is not right," they explained.

"It's maybe one for further down the line. They've pushed for it to return since the moment it ended. But it hasn't been long enough so it won't be happening any time soon."
The X Factor originally launched in 2004 and became one of ITV's biggest entertainment programmes, running for 14 years before its final series in 2018.
The show helped launch the careers of several major music acts, including One Direction, Little Mix, Leona Lewis and Olly Murs.

Cowell, who created the competition, became one of its most recognisable faces alongside fellow judges who changed throughout the years, including Cheryl, Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger.
At its peak, the programme regularly attracted millions of viewers and became a major part of Saturday night television.
However, falling viewing figures led to the show taking a break after its 2018 series.
While there have been various discussions about bringing it back since then, there are currently no plans for an immediate return.
