The 48 year old actor shared that his grandfather was from Northern Ireland and that he wanted to apply for an Irish passport so he could feel more connected to his roots. The actor shared that the decision was also to simplify travel across Europe post Brexit.
Bloom revealed the news to Ryan Tubridy whilst on UK's Virgin Radio, "I'm getting my Irish passport. [My grandfather] was actually from Northern Ireland," he told Tubridy. To which he responded with "there’s a lot of people from the UK who, after a certain political move, found themselves looking for a granny down the back of the couch."
Bloom explained that a part of it was for work as he said "when I was working in Prague for a while, [there was] a whole bunch of new paperwork." Although he continued to explain how proud he is of his heritage, "I love the fact that I've got Irish heritage. That’s all it is."
This comes after his split with singer Katy Perry, the couple broke up after almost a decade together. The pair share a daughter together and said in a statement that they had been "shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting."
