Measles Case Confirmed On Flight From Abu Dhabi To Dublin

Some passengers who took a recent flight from Abu Dhabi to Dublin, have been urged to come forward, following confirmation of a case of measles onboard.

The HSE have confirmed that this is the third case of measles in Ireland, concerning passengers who travelled from Abu Dhabi to Dublin on Eithad Airways flight EY45.

According to the HSE Public Health, passengers who travelled on this flight which arrived on Saturday 9 March 2024 at 6.30am, have been urged to contact HSELive urgently at 1800 700 700, or 00353 1 2408787 if calling from outside Ireland. A confirmed case of measles travelled on this flight.

The HSE have particularly appealed to any passenger who is immunocompromised, pregnant or under the aged of 12 months. 

This is the third confirmed case reported in Ireland this year, with the first case resulting in the death of a man in his 40s in a hospital along the Dublin and Midlands Health Region in February.

A second case was confirmed on March 6 in the west of the country. There were four cases of the disease reported last year, two in 2022, no cases confirmed in 2021, with five confirmed cases in 2020. 

A vaccination catch-up programme was set up amid a rise in cases across the UK and Europe, targeting around 300,000 people.
