The long-awaited Michael Jackson biopic has been given a release date of 18th April 2025.

“Michael” will be directed by Antoine Fuqua (The Equaliser trilogy, Training Day, Bullet Train) and star Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson, son of Jermaine,  in his first film role.

The film will be produced by Graham King (Bohemian Rhapsody) with a script by John Logan (Gladiator, Any Given Sunday, Star Trek: Nemesis).

The official synopsis for the movie reads: “‘Michael’ will bring audiences a riveting and honest portrayal of the brilliant yet complicated man who became the King of Pop.

“The film presents his triumphs and tragedies on an epic, cinematic scale — from his human side and personal struggles to his undeniable creative genius, exemplified by his most iconic performances.

“As never before, audiences will experience an inside look into one of the most influential, trailblazing artists the world has ever known.”

The film will also be produced by John Branca and John McClain, the co-executors of the late musician’s estate.

Given the strong involvement of the Jackson estate and family, including lead actor Jaafar Jackson, it is unclear how the biopic will address the multiple allegations of child sexual abuse that the “King of Pop” faced throughout his career and following his death.

Jackson, who was found not guilty of child molestation in 2003, vehemently denied all allegations until his death in 2009 at the age of 50.

“Michael” is taking the theatrical release date previously held by “The Exorcist: Deceiver,” which was removed from Universal’s upcoming schedule following the departure of director David Gordon Green.

Production on "Michael" is slated to begin on 22nd January.
