Sophie Ellis-Bextor Set For Music Comeback

Sophie Ellis-Bextor is to release new music later this year.

The singer whose breakthrough hit Murder On The Dancefloor has enjoyed a recent renaissance, having featured in the Golden Globe nominated Saltburn with Barry Keoghan, has signed a record deal with her former label Universal. 

It is a single which has certainly propelled Ellis-Bextor back into stardom, having been one of he top 5 most played tracks in the world last week, such is its popularity. 

"Sophie has become a global star again," a music industry source told the Mail on Sunday. "Universal, her old record label, have snapped her up and she will be releasing new music later in the year. She is likely to be a bigger star than she was back in the day. It has come out of nowhere for Sophie and she is thrilled and really excited". 

On the song's renaissance, Sophie Ellis-Bextor added, "It's just an extraordinary thing and it's quite hard to get my head around. 'It's feeling a bit more real now, but I'm trying my best to just enjoy it". 

Having released her music in the noughties, including Murder On The Dancefloor in 2001, Sophie Ellis-Bextor became a hit online, when she live streamed her Kitchen Discos via her Instagram account during the Covid lockdowns. The singer now hosts a BBC Radio 2 show of the same name.

She also made her Glastonbury debut last year.
