Fire crews are continuing to monitor a major wildfire in Slievemanon today.
This comes following several days of intensive firefighting operations, with conditions having stabilised overnight according to Tipperary Fire and Rescue Service, following extensive ground and aerial efforts.
A reconnaissance flight was carried out by Tipperary Fire and Rescue Service along with the Irish Air Corps to seek a better aerial view of the wildfire. They sought to identify hot spots and where to send crews to target their fire fighting operations.
However, the service has warned that fire activity could increase again as temperatures continue to rise during the day. Firefighters are remaining at the scene, while aerial support is also expected to continue as crews work to contain and tackle the blaze.
While there is no immediate threat to life, Tipperary County Council have also urged the public to stay away from the affected area, and to avoid all non essential travel nearby to allow emergency services unrestricted access.
They have particularly advised residents who live downwind of the blaze to keep windows and doors closed where smoke is present. While children, pregnant women, older people and those with respiratory or heart issues are also being advised to take extra precautions to minimise exposure to smoke.
Farmers and animal owners have also been asked to closely monitor livestock and where possible, move animals away from any smoke-affected areas.
