Gardaí have said that one of the vehicles involved in the recent collision on the M50, which left nine people injured, was reported stolen the previous day.

This serious collision saw eight teenagers and a man taken to hospital on Sunday after a car drove the wrong way down an exit ramp onto the M50, colliding with another car driven by a man. The eight teenagers were taken to different hospitals, with one in a critical condition.

The driver of the other car, who is believed to be in his 20s, is also being treated for serious injuries.

It has since been revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen on Saturday, and this is a subject of a Garda investigation, an accident which happened at Junction 12, Firhouse at 5.30am Sunday morning.

It had been revealed that Fiosrú, the Office of the Police Ombudsman, Fiosrú said that an on-call team of investigators attended the scene, while the independent investigation remains ongoing.

But they did insist that the investigation does not necessarily mean that a Garda or Gardaí have been accused of any wrongdoing.

"Instead, it means that Fiosrú should independently investigate the incident to ascertain whether or not the act or omission of a garda or gardaí may have resulted in the death of, or serious harm to, a person," they said. (Quotes according to RTÉ). More on this here.
