22-year-old Darragh O’Brien, of no fixed abode, was charged with assault causing harm of a man in his 40s just over a week ago in the Temple Bar area of Dublin.
The Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin heard that in the early hours of August 21st the victim, an English tourist, got into a verbal altercation with the accused after he left a pub in the Temple Bar Square area.
The accused then allegedly swung four kicks, with one of them striking the victim on the head.
He remains in an induced coma and is in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital.
The court also heard that Mr O’Brien is currently not welcome at his home address and is couch surfing.
He was remanded in custody with consent to bail, subject to obtaining an address.
