The new biopic about Britney Spears is set to be written by New Girl creator, Liz Meriwether.
The project, which will be based on the singer's memoir, The Woman In Me, is to see Meriwether write the script, the Hollywood Reporter understands. It was already confirmed that the project would be spearheaded by Wicked director, Jon M. Chu.
Spears' autobiography, The Woman In Me sold 2.5 million copies in the US, as well as several millions of copies in October 2023, following its initial release. Elsewhere, the audiobook, which was narrated by Hollywood star, Michelle Williams, was also the fastest selling in publisher, Simon & Schuster's history.
This book included a number of revelations from Spears, as well as details about her 13 year conservatorship. It revealed that she had an abortion while in a relationship with singer, Justin Timberlake between 1998 and 2002, as they were "too young", and "weren't ready to have a baby in their lives".
According to NME, Jon M Chu said last year that any biopic on Britney Spears was a long way from completion,
“I’m a big fan of Britney. I’ve been a fan since I was young and she was young and she was one of 12 acts at the Shrine Auditorium. So I want to do her justice and tell her story right. But we’ll see. We’re developing it now and it’s a long road ahead", he said at the time.
Back in May, Britney Spears opened up about having the "highest consciousness" that she has "ever felt in (her) life". More on this story here.
