Dolly Parton has spoken of her delight at having a hospital named in her honour.

This comes after it was confirmed that East Tennessee Children's Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee would was to be renamed the Dolly Parton Children's Hospital.

Speaking about the name change, the president and CEO for the hospital, Michael Schaeffer heaped the praise on Parton.

"This is more than a name change," Schaeffer stated. "With Dolly's support, we are strengthening our mission to deliver world-class paediatric care to families, ensuring every child who walks through our doors receives the treatment they deserve".

Reacting to the news in a video message shared via Instagram, Dolly Parton had this to say.

"I've always believed that every child deserves a fair chance to grow up healthy, hopeful, and surrounded with love. Now, that belief is what brought me together with the incredible folks at East Tennessee Children's Hospital", she said.

"For nearly 90 years, their teams have provided compassionate and talented care. They see children not just as patients, but as precious lives. Each with a story, and a future... I am so excited to share, East Tennessee Children's Hospital is becoming... guess what? Dolly Parton Children's Hospital. Yay!", she added.

The music legend also urged her fans to support the medical centre as well.

She said: "I can't do it all myself! I'm going to need you. So, when we come together for our children, there's no limit to what we can do. To learn more or to get involved, visit DollyChildrens.org".

News of this comes months after Parton had been forced to call off another of shows due to ongoing health issues.

In a further update last October, Dolly Parton was quick to assure fans that she was not quite "dead yet".

"I ain't dead yet", she siad before adding: "Well, today's October the eighth, and obviously I'm here, doing some commercials for the Grand Ole Opry".

"But before I got started, I wanted to say, I know lately everybody thinks that I'm sicker than I am. Do I look sick to you?! I'm working hard here!".

The singer continued: "Anyway, I wanted to put everybody's mind at ease, those of you that seem to be real concerned, which I appreciate". .

"And I appreciate your prayers, because I'm a person of faith. I can always use the prayers for anything and everything".

Back in January, Dolly Parton shared a new rendition of her track, 'Light of a clear Blue Morning', which feature among others, her goddaughter, Miley Cyrus. Check this out here.
