Michael Fassbender is to star as Joe Kennedy Sr, the father of the late US President John F Kennedy in the new Netflix series.
The series, Kennedy, will see the actor star as the father of the late president, Senator Robert F Kennedy and Senator Edward 'Ted' Kennedy.
Directed by Thomas Vinterverg, Kennedy is reportedly based on Fredrik Longevall's book, JFK: Coming of Age In The American Century 1917-1956.
The synopsis has stated that the series, which runs for eight episodes, will follow "the intimate lives, loves, rivalries, and tragedies that shaped the most iconic dynasty in modern history, and helped create the world we live in today".
"Beginning in the 1930s, the first season charts the improbable ascent of Joe and Rose Kennedy and their nine children, including rebellious second son Jack, who struggles to escape the shadow of his golden boy older brother," it adds.
No other details regarding casting were announced at the time of writing.
