Welsh singer Duffy will feature in a new documentary recounting her rise to fame and ensuing kidnapping and sexual assault.

The 41 year old singer will open up about her rise to fame and the details of what happened after in the documentary that will be released to Disney+.

Duffy rose to fame shortly after the release of her 2000's album Rockferry and is best known for her songs Mercy and Warwick Avenue. Duffy went on to release a second album, titled Endlessly, in 2010 before completley withdrawing herself from the public eye.

The new film will document the singers upbringing in Wales, her music career, and her attack. Duffy revealed almost a decade after the incident that she was kidnapped and sexually assaulted. The documentary will chronicle the stars music career from the early days to the present, almost 15 years after the attack.

The documentary will also include interviews with the singers friends and family, along with people in the music industry.

Director Gill Callan speaking of the documentary said: "Duffy’s life has been shaped by success and fame, but equally by pain, defiance, and an irrepressible sense of self. I’m drawn to the tension between vulnerability and confidence in her story and how a person can be deeply affected by their experiences, yet still find a powerful, expressive voice that is unmistakably hers."

Vice president of unscripted at Disney+, Sean Doyle, added that the film aims to give Duffy the chance to recount her experience "in her own words."

"We set out in a search for impactful, female-led stories in collaboration with Northern Ireland Screen, and it’s a privilege that Duffy’s is the first we’re able to help tell. But above all, I’m especially in awe of Duffy - for her honesty and courage to share her story," he Doyle said.

In other news, back in 2020, during the pandemic, Duffy shared a song titled Something Beautiful with BBC Radio 2, however she never officially released it.
