Virgin Media have announced that a new family will be sitting down on their sofa for the upcoming season of Gogglebox Ireland.

Hailing from Ballymun in Dublin, the Flynn-Fitzgeralds — mum Charlene, dad Paul, and son and daughter Rhys and Kayleigh — are a tight-knit crew who love nothing more than settling in together for a night of sports, soaps, and debates.

The familial lore runs deep with this lot, too — as mum Charlene ran away with the carnival and spent nine months travelling across Ireland and the UK when she was younger, with Paul being a stay-at-home dad whose favourite memory watching TV was Italia ’90 and the US World Cup in 1994 — where Ireland reached the quarter finals and last 16 respectively.

Kayleigh, 19, is heading into her second year of social studies at TUD and is passionate about social justice and youth policy. Her 12-year-old brother, Rhys, is a football fan with a flair for science and baking, and is eyeing a career in aviation engineering.

With Gogglebox set to return to our screens on Wednesday (October 1), fan favourites Tracie and Anita have spoken about their long-standing friendship, which has been televised — joking that, at first, they didn’t like each other.

Asked how they struck up a friendship, Anita joked that she didn’t like Tracie at first, before revealing how their parents had been friends when they were growing up.

‘We kind of ended up drawing ourselves to each other, and we could always say, we could live with each other!’ Anita shared.

Asked if they had any annoyances about each other, Tracie revealed there were none, but was shocked to learn Anita had ‘a lot.’

‘Name one,’ Tracie demanded, ‘Cause I thought I was perfect now, I really did.’

Anita explained ‘Well, I touch her and I hate anyone touching me, but if I touch you, sometimes it’s kind of like, I like reassurance that you’re there with me, and she’d be like: “GET YOUR HANDS OFF ME!”‘

‘No, it doesn’t happen like that at all,’ Tracie responded, explaining that her pal tends to pull her hand all over the place for half an hour.’

Gogglebox Ireland returns to Virgin Media One and Virgin Media Play at 9.30pm on Wednesday, October 1.
