At least 39 people have been killed after two high-speed trains collided in central Spain, according to local authorities.
The crash happened shortly after 9am local time between the towns of Los Yébenes and Urda, in the province of Toledo.
Emergency services have been sent to the scene, with mobile intensive care units and additional medical support deployed to help those injured.
Witnesses told Spanish newspaper El País that several people had been injured in the collision. Two train carriages are also reported to have left the tracks and rolled down an embankment.
One of the trains was travelling from Madrid to Seville, according to reports, while the exact circumstances surrounding the collision remain unclear.
Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has expressed his shock at the incident and offered his support to those affected.
In a post on X, he said he was "shocked by the serious train accident in Toledo".
"I remain in constant contact with the minister of transport and with the president of Castilla-La Mancha," he added.
"Emergency services are working on the ground to assist those affected and ensure their safety, in coordination with all the involved administrations."

The rail line has been suspended following what has been described as a rear-end collision.
The incident comes after another deadly train crash in Spain earlier this year. On January 18, at least 45 people were killed and 170 injured when two trains derailed near Adamuz in southern Spain.
In that incident, an Iryo train travelling from Málaga to Madrid derailed and crossed onto the opposite track, where it collided with an oncoming service travelling from Madrid to Huelva.
An investigation into that crash found that a fracture in the rail appeared to have occurred before the collision.
The circumstances surrounding the latest crash are not yet clear.
This is a developing story.
