Meta Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg has recently bought the Strancally Castle in Co Waterford.
A spokesperson for Zuckerberg told RTE that "Mark and his family are excited to continue caring for this historic home and look forward to spending time in Ireland, where Meta maintains its international headquarters".
According to recent reports, it is understood that the social media company owner will continue to live in the US and will use his property in Waterford when he has to deal with business in Ireland.
Facebook established its international headquarters in Dublin in 2009, while Meta currently employs around 1,500 people across Ireland.
The current Strancally Castle is located around 4.5km from the ruins of the original Strancally Castle. It is described in reports as a "three-storey cut stone Gothic revival style house " that was built in 1827.
The current house was previously owned by the Alen-Buckley family.
In a statement to The Irish Times, the former owners stated that they were leaving their home of 25 years "fondly" were grateful that they had the oppurtunity to save and restore the castle.
“We are delighted that Mark and his family intend to build on our stewardship by continuing to invest in maintaining and enhancing the property and grounds as their home in a sustainable manner. We wish them and their family much happiness in this unique and blessed place,” they said.
