Brad Pitt has temporarily relocated to Ireland as production begins on his latest film, The Riders, with the Hollywood star expected to spend the next two weeks filming across the country.
According to the Irish Independent, the 62-year-old actor is believed to be staying in Dalkey, South Dublin, while shooting scenes for the A24-backed project. The coastal suburb previously served as a temporary home for Matt Damon in 2020 and has once again become a focal point for film fans eager to catch sight of a major Hollywood name.
The Riders is directed by Edward Berger, the Academy Award–winning filmmaker behind All Quiet on the Western Front, and is based on Tim Winton’s acclaimed 1994 novel. The story is partly set in Ireland, making the country a central location in the film’s narrative.
Filming will take place across Wicklow, Dublin, Cork and Kerry. Among the most striking locations is Lough Tay in Co. Wicklow, commonly known as the Guinness Lake. The dramatic landscape has previously appeared in Vikings and Excalibur, and is expected to feature prominently in the film. Additional scenes will be shot elsewhere in Europe, including the Greek island of Hydra.
The film follows Fred Scully, played by Pitt, who travels through Europe with his wife Jennifer and their young daughter Billie before settling in rural Ireland. On a spontaneous decision by Jennifer, the family purchases an old farmhouse in the shadow of a castle. While Scully stays behind to renovate the property, Jennifer returns to Australia with Billie to sell their assets. When Scully later arrives at Shannon Airport to collect them, only Billie emerges — alone, mute and without explanation — leaving him devastated and searching for answers.
Alongside Pitt, the cast includes Emmy-nominated actress Julianne Nicholson (Boardwalk Empire) and newcomer Coco Greenstone. Berger’s involvement has heightened anticipation for the film, given his recent critical success and reputation for emotionally driven storytelling.
Pitt’s presence has already generated buzz locally, with fans reportedly gathering in Dalkey and other filming locations in hopes of spotting the actor. After completing filming in Ireland, the production will move on to other European locations.
The Riders adds to a growing list of high-profile international productions choosing Ireland, highlighting the country’s continued appeal to the global film industry.
