Britney Spears' rep has denied rumours of erratic behaviour by the singer at restaurant in Los Angeles recently.

This comes following reports that the singer was spotted shouting loudly and wielding a knife around other people at the  Blue Dog Tavern in Sherman Oaks.

Sources had claimed that the atmosphere around the premises became tense, and Spears was allegedly agitated, while witnesses reported that she had raised her voice several times, making barking noises.

Spears was also allegedly walking around the restaurant while holding a knife, which left some patrons worried that someone could get hurt. Staff members also reportedly stepped in when the singer lit a cigarette near the restaurant entrance.

"completely blown out of proportion"

Now, a spokesperson on behalf of Britney Spears has dismissed these reports of the singer's erratic behaviour at this restaurant.

"This is completely blown out of proportion," a spokesperson for the singer said. "Britney was enjoying a quiet dinner with her assistant and bodyguard".

Spears' rep insisted that the singer was "simply telling the story about how her dog was barking at the neighbors", and was not walking around the premises with a knife in hand, contrary to reports.

"At no point did she put anyone in danger with a knife," her spokesperson continued. "She was cutting her hamburger in half", they added.

"This constant attack on everything that she does and this is exactly what happened 20 years ago when the media tried to depict Britney as a bad person. This is ridiculous and it needs to stop now".

Earlier this month, Britney Spears was spared prison time for DUI, after pleading guilty to a lesser charger of reckless driving. The singer was sentenced to 12 months of informal probation, where she must comply with court-ordered conditions including vehicle searches if requested by law enforcement.

Earlier this year, Spears was charged with one count of misdemeanour DUI by prosecutors in Ventura County, following an incident on 5 March in which she was stopped by police after reportedly driving “erratically”.
