The Traitors contestants all have ten strict rules to follow while starring in the BBC show — whether playing as a Traitor or Faithful.
Players taking part must adhere to a specific set of rules during their time in the castle.
If any of these are broken, the cast members could face huge consequences as a result.
The contracts the stars sign span their time in the castle and the months before the transmission of the series once filming has wrapped, ensuring no spoilers derail the show.
No access to the time
Throughout their time in the game, contestants are not allowed to know the time.
This extends to there not being any clocks in the castle, or in the players' individual rooms where they are staying.
No access to mobile phones
Following similar logic to the time rule, players are not permitted to have devices such as mobile phones or laptops.
No interacting outside of filming
After returning to their individual lodgings, contestants must then stay there for the remainder of the evening.
Should they want to leave, they must ask one of the assigned security guards to do so.
Contestants are not fully aware where they are staying
After contestants return to their individual lodgings, viewers don't see what happens — and neither do the other players.
Traitors are not allowed to reveal fellow Traitors by exposing their own identity
Under the oath upon being appointed, the selected few promise to murder every night and keep the identities of their fellow Traitors a secret.
They are, however, permitted to accuse other Traitors, as long as they don't use their own role as part of the evidence.
The contestants must not reveal show secrets prior to airing — having signed NDAs
The Traitors is filmed months before it hits screens — with contestants having to keep quiet about how everything plays out.
Both civilian and celebrity contestants therefore had to sign air-tight NDAs (non-disclosure agreements) to not expose anything ahead of time.
Contestants can only drink a limited amount of alcohol
Meryl Williams — a joint winner of series one — explained that while some alcohol is provided, there is a limit on it.
She explained to Metro: “I didn't get to drink alcohol every night.
We only got it every couple of nights, and it was rationed, not rationed but we got like one glass or two glasses each.
We couldn't literally have a whole bottle to ourselves.”
Some areas of the castle are out of bounds
Although the show often depicts contestants socialising in different parts of the castle, there are some restrictions.
Before entering the show, would-be contestants must take a personality test
When casting for the show, producers must work out whether hopefuls are the right fit — and which role would better suit them.
The end goal is to have varied personalities in the final line-up, as well as making sure contestants are prepared for the high pressure game.
No sleeping overnight in the castle
Players may spend all day filming in Ardross Castle, located in the Scottish Highlands — but they don't spend the night there.
Instead, they are individually brought back to their lodgings, after circling to a different part of the property first.
