The death of Irish fashion designer, Paul Costelloe was accidental and resulted from an underlying cause of acute myeloid leukaemia, a coroner has confirmed.
Speaking at Westminster Coroner's Court, coroner Jean Harkin said that the designer's death as accidental, with the underlying cause of acute myeloid leukaemia a contributing factor. Mr Costelloe was 80 years old when he died following a fall last November.
The court was also informed Mr Costelloe's health had deteriorated following his fall in November 2025. They also heard that Mr Costelloe had lived an independent life, despite being diagnosed with leukaemia in June 2025.
Following his fall, he was taken to Chelsea and Westminister Hospital. He was later transferred to St Mary's Hospital, where he died, surrounded by his family, including his wife and seven children.
In a statement, Paul Costelloe's family described him as ‘first and foremost a loving husband and father’.
They added: "Paul was an internationally recognised fashion designer who dressed Diana, Princess of Wales and other members of the royal family".
"His collections elevated the runways of London Fashion Week for more than 40 years. ‘He cut his teeth in Paris, Milan and New York, but it was in his home town in Dublin where he returned to establish his fashion house".
Having made his mark in the fashion capitals of Milan, Paris and New York and later, London, Costelloe set up his own label, Paul Costelloe Productions in 1979. He also presented collections at London Fashion Week for 35 years.
He was later appointed personal designer to Princess Diana in 1983, which was a collaboration that continued until her death in 1997.
