A producer for the Pirates Of The Caribbean films has said that Johnny Depp could make a return to the franchise.

Depp starred as the popular Captain Jack Sparrow in the franchise in the early 2000s, earning a Best Actor Award nomination for his performances in 2003’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

After starring in further sequels in 2006 and 2017, Johnny Depp soon fell out of favour, when his ongoing legal feud with ex wife Amber Heard came to light. Heard made allegations of domestic abuse against the actor in an op-ed in the Washington Post in 2018.

Having lost a libel case against the Sun who called Depp a "wife beater" in 2020, the actor won a defamation case against Amber Heard in 2022, which saw him awarded $10 million in damages and $5million in punitive damages.

Depp was also dropped from the Fantastic Beasts franchise, having starred in  Fantastic Beast And Where To Find Them (2016), and Fantastic Beast: The Crimes Of Grindelwald, (2018), before being dropped from the third movie of the franchise.

"think he would do it"

Now, speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Jerry Bruckheimer, producer for the series, has hinted that Depp could be set for a return for a reboot of the franchise. This reboot is set to include a new cast with characters from the original movies, with the producer hopeful of include Jack Sparrow in that.

“If (Depp) likes the way the part’s written, I think he would do it,” he said of the actor’s involvement. “It’s all about what’s on the page, as we all know”.

Previously, Bruckheimer had said: “It’s a reboot, but if it was up to me, he would be in it, I love him".

“He’s a good friend. He’s an amazing artist, and he’s a unique look. He created Captain Jack. That was not on the page; that was him doing a little Pepé Le Pew and Keith Richards. That was his interpretation of Jack Sparrow”.

“We are still working on a screenplay. We want to make it. We just got to get the right screenplay. We haven’t quite gotten there yet, but we’re close".
