Katy Perry has opened up about her relationship with Justin Trudeau, revealing that she had been looking for an “epic, legendary love” before meeting the former Canadian prime minister.
In an exclusive interview with People, the singer said she believes her relationship with Trudeau came into her life after she had spoken to her therapist about wanting a great love story.
“I always wanted this epic legendary love, and I was talking to my therapist about it: Everything in my life is epic, but this is kind of the missing puzzle piece — then it showed up,” she said.

The singer said the relationship came during what had been a particularly difficult period for her.
Her marriage to Russell Brand ended years ago, while her nine-year relationship with Orlando Bloom came to an end in 2025. The former couple share daughter Daisy Dove.

Speaking about the period following her split from Bloom, Perry said: “It was probably the hardest time. My friends were all hanging out back home. I was crying and just feeling far away.”
She added: “But then my angels went to work. They really showed up.”

Perry said she had also made a list of things she wanted in her life, which included finding “true love”.
She told People that she had written: “No. 10 just says, ‘True Love.’ And I think that’s where we’re at.”
Rumours about Perry and Trudeau began in 2025 after they were spotted together in Montreal, where Trudeau also attended one of Perry’s concerts.
The pair later went public with their relationship, appearing together at Perry’s birthday dinner in Paris before making their red carpet debut at the Tribeca Festival in New York in June.

They attended the premiere of Perry’s concert film, Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live from Paris, where they posed together for photographers.
Perry has now described Trudeau as a major source of support during her tour.

She revealed that he attended 10 of her 20 recent shows.
“He knows the words, he’s supportive, and he’s in awe; it’s super healing,” she said.
“He is really heart-centered, and I think that we align in that way. I’m so grateful.”

Perry also reflected on her long relationship with Orlando Bloom, saying she believes there were important lessons to learn from their time together.
“I wouldn’t have stayed with him for nine years if there wasn’t really important things to learn. Each relationship is a teacher, right?” she said.
“I had to let it go so I could move forward.”

Trudeau separated from his wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau in 2023 after 18 years of marriage. They share three children.
Perry and Trudeau have continued to make public appearances together, with the singer now describing the relationship as the love she had been hoping to find.
