In a revealing interview on Call Her Daddy with Alex Cooper, Kim Kardashian peeled back layers of her public persona, touching on fame, family, beauty, marriage, and the moments she’s come to see differently in hindsight. With her reality show’s new season gearing up for release, the upcoming Skims × Nike collaboration in full swing, and her recent success in passing the bar to become a lawyer, Kim’s reflections show a woman moving with intention through both her personal growth and public life.

When Cooper asked about how intimate questions were lavished on her sister Chloé in earlier interviews, Kim pushed back on the acceptance of that standard: “It was about looks, it was about weight. It’s crazy to think this was okay at that time.” She clearly sees both how far standards have come—and how far they once were from fair.

Recalling an infamous internet moment involving a missing diamond earring after a jewelry-or-fashion-or-something mishap, Kim admitted: “They weren’t insured yet. That’s why I was so upset.” The story took a twist: “Kylie Jenner dove down, found [the missing earring] with her goggles in the ocean, then went back and found the earring back. So I got the full earring back!” She contrasted this with a recent flare-up involving a rare Hermès Birkin from the 1990s. Kris Jenner had gifted one to Kylie, but Kim had been hunting for that bag for awhile—and she confessed she was “crashing out”, “rage-texting” her mother about the Birkin ordeal.

Kim addressed rumors about a supposed facelift that circulated after her 2021 Met Gala appearance where her entire face was covered. “That’s insane, I would absolutely love to show it off if I did [have a facelift].”

On her beauty expenses—a realm few ever get to see in full—Kim says she loses track in the best way. Between filming Keeping Up with the Kardashians (and now its new season), travel, ceremonies, events, she says she’s never been charged for her own “glam secrets.” When asked “how much a year do you spend on glam”, she answered: “I don’t have a concept of what simple things cost. I would like to know a little bit more about what a mil carton costs.” She adds that her teams might easily spend a million dollars just on glam.

Kim also revisited one particular photoshoot memory that now makes her wince: when she shot with a young Justin Bieber, around age 16, portraying a pairing inspired by The Graduate where she was to play a teacher and he the student. “Nothing ever weird was happening, that was an odd concept. While none of us thought that was odd at the time, now we look back and think, that would not have been the most appropriate thing.”

She firmly refuted rumors about romance with Travis Barker: “I was friends with him but never in that way.”

Discussing intimacy, she didn’t shy away from sharing. On what she called the “craziest place she’s ever had sex”—“a movie theatre”—Kim described the adventure simply as “so fun.”

Asked about her earliest goals when Keeping Up with the Kardashians first began back in 2007, Kim said: “I just wanted to be famous. That was my goal at that time. I didn’t even think we’d get to a second season, a long-term plan wasn’t even in my head at that point.” She credited her mother Kris with helping foster that vision: “This is our moment this is our time […] my mom and I had that vision […] the show brought us so close together. It would break a lot of people.”

One of the hardest periods, she says, was dealing with Caitlyn Jenner’s transition. “My mom didn’t know how to handle it, Kendall and Kylie as losing their father in their mind, and at that time Caitlyn wasn’t open with us about her transition.” When Cooper asked how she and her family got through it, Kim responded: “By being a family.”

On her previous marriage with Kanye West, described by Cooper as part of “one of the most famous couples in the world”, Kim said: “I’ve had a few marriages that weren’t for me.” She admitted to wondering “am I a failure?”, but pulled herself out of that mindset: “I look back at that and say you know what, an over a decade relationship with 4 beautiful children is not a failure. You can’t think that way. I have to come home to myself, I have to be happy.”

Kim also revealed that she is currently in the longest stretch she’s ever been single. “I’ve been single for a while. and I’m totally good with that. I have my kids to raise and a life that requires a lot of my attention. My kids really need me right now. […] I’ve had my phases. Now I just wanna be with my babies.”

Co-parenting with Kanye, she said, has its challenges. “It’s not easy. I raise the kids full time. They live with me. I welcome a great healthy relationship between my kids and their dad. [Kanye] knows I push for it all the time. But I also protect them when it’s time for that.” She added: “It’s probably been a few months since we’ve heard from him,” referencing herself and her four children. “The one thing that just gets me […] is that ‘I keep the kids away from him.’ I’ve never once done that. I’ve begged them to go hang out [with their dad].”

Through all this, Kim’s journey has been more than tabloid moments. She has just passed the bar to become a lawyer, adding formal legal work to her many businesses. Her SKIMS × Nike line has just launched, offering her design instincts and brand power in a new athletic-fashion collaboration. And while fans wait for the new season of her reality show—set to drop later this year—Kim’s reflection here feels like a turning point: she seems less consumed by image, more grounded in authenticity, more focused on her children, her voice, and her own happiness.

In the end, when pressed on fame, intimacy, and divorce, Kim summed up her ambition bluntly: she “just wanted to be famous.” That goal set off a journey she couldn’t have predicted, filled with public scrutiny, private heartbreak, creative expansion, and a hard-won sense of self.
