Kylie Minogue hopes fans will understand that she is "not invincible" after watching her upcoming Netflix documentary.

The new three part series, Kylie, will delve into how Minogue became one of the biggest superstars in music. It will include footage from her childhood and her time on Australian soap, Neighbours, including contributions from former co star and ex partner, Jason Donovan, sister Dannii and singer, Nick Cave.

Hopeful that fans will gain  a better understanding about her after watching this series, Minogue said: "I can imagine that fans and maybe even broader than that... maybe that's one of the reasons that I have this relationship with my fans and the broader audience, is they can see, don't know if I tried to do this, again it's very weird to say this about myself, but I'm not invincible".

"I can get the job done, and I can shine, hopefully", she continued. "But I think that, I don't know, that they understand that you could be me, we could co-exist".

"how much I've changed"

Kylie Minogue went on to talk about the public scrutiny and misogyny that she faced throughout her career.

"There's always a lot of talk about how much I've changed", she said. "We all change through life, and grow and develop, and certainly that's evident, as an artist".

"Like, I was famous before I knew what I was doing, so you know, and there came a lot of the criticism and the hardship with that, but what's illuminating to me is, in so many ways, I haven't changed", she added. "Like, the way of dealing with stuff from that time that you're talking about is kind of how I do it now. Like, I read the room, do what I have to do, feel the fear and do it anyway".

The series will also see sisters Kylie and Dannii Minogue talking about her battle with cancer in 2005. Kylie was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer in May 2005, before undergoing a lumpectomy and chemotherapy in Paris. She was given the all clear in 2006.

The news coverage surrounding her diagnosis led to a remarkable increase in bookings for mammograms, which was later referred to as the 'Kylie effect'.

"beam of light"

Elsewhere, the series' director, Michael Harte, who hails from Donegal, said meeting Kylie for the first time was like a "beam of light".

"I remember coming in and there was an energy to Kylie, and I was like, 'Wow, I hadn't experienced this before'. It was just intoxicating," Harte said.

He added: "There was a vibe that I thought, 'If we can take this and turn it into a movie, it'll be f****** electric'".

Describing making this film as "two years of joy", Harte said he was enamoured by Kylie's sense of humour and "extraordinary" talent, but above all, her resilience.

Kylie will premiere on Netflix this Wednesday (May 20).
