Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas are among the star studded guests who will head over to the Dublin International Film Festival in March.

The actors will join Irish director John Carney at the DIFF for the world premiere of their musical comedy, Power Ballad at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, which will take place on Sunday, 1 March. Tickets will go up for sale tomorrow (23 January) at 9am, priced at €38.

A presale of these tickets for DIFF Members' Club, Festival Pass Holders and BGE Rewards customers is already under way.

Directed by Carney and actor Peter McDonald, Power Ballad also stars Keith McErlean, Rory Keenan, Marcella Plunkett, Sophie Vavasseur, Jack Reynor, and Naoimh Whelton. The film is being produced by Dublin company, Treasure Entertainment, supported by Fís Eireann/Screen Ireland.

According to a synopsis, Power Ballad "follows Rick (Paul Rudd), a past-his-prime wedding singer, who crosses paths with Danny (Nick Jonas), a fading boyband star, during a gig".

The synopsis continues: "Bonding over music and a late-night jam session, the two strike up an unlikely friendship".

"However, when Rick and Danny return to their respective worlds, they discover that this chance encounter will upend both their lives in very different ways", it added.

Speaking about the film, John Carney added: "I'm delighted to have our film, Power Ballad, close this year's festival".

"It's apt to go out, after so many great films, with a bang of music and fun. Who wouldn't want to watch Paul Rudd throw Nick Jonas off a balcony? (Seriously, that happens in our movie".

Power Ballad is due to be released on Friday, 29 May.

"never looked so bright"

Ahead of the festival, Grainne Humphreys, Dublin International Film Festival Director, believes that the future of Irish cinema is in good hands.

"A big thank you to Bord Gáis Energy Theatre for being a part of a DIFF first, showcasing our closing-night film in their beautiful theatre, and to Lionsgate UK and the wonderful team at Treasure Entertainment and director John Carney in entrusting us to make it all happen", she said.
