Saipan is to receive its Irish premiere at the Cork International Film Festival in November.
The film starring Éanna Hardwicke and Steve Coogan, will explore the infamous row between Roy Keane and Mick McCarthy during Ireland's 2002 World Cup preparations in Saipan. Cork actor Hardwicke will play former Republic of Ireland captain Roy Keane, with Steve Coogan to star as former manager Mick McCarthy.
Saipan will be the opening film on show at this festival, which takes place at the Everyman Theatre on November 6. This edition of the festival will close on November 16, with the Irish premiere of the comedy drama, Is This Thing On?, directed by Bradley Cooper. Cooper will also star in the film alongside Will Arnett and Laura Dern.
Speaking about this festival, Fiona Clarke, Festival Director and CEO of the Cork International Film Festival said: "We are delighted and honoured to bookend our landmark 70th Festival edition with two Irish premieres of this stature".
She continued: "A festival of our scale and impact is a huge undertaking by our dedicated team, and we are excited to share the outcome of our endeavours and invite audiences to celebrate this remarkable milestone - as Ireland's largest and longest-running film festival - with prestige titles like Saipan and, of course, its significant Cork connections.
"We will be showcasing over 200 films and special events across Cork with more films announced in advance of the unveiling of the full programme on Wednesday 15 October. We look forward to welcoming audiences to share the spotlight in Cork in November".
