Saturday Night Live has aired its second episode and fans continue to be divided.
Having aired its first episode last weekend (March 21), the British version of the long-running US sketch show has been met with largely mixed reactions from the audiences, who have described using words like "disastrously unfunny", and "brilliant".
Over the weekend (March 28), the series continued, with actor Jamie Dornan as guest host, with Tina Fey have hosted the show the previous week, with Wolf Alice as musical guest.
Such sketches included a cold open satire of disgraced former Royal Prince Andrew, showing his fall from grace as part of a plan devised by MI5 to improve King Charles' III's public image following the tragic death of Princess Diana in 1997.
It also included a meta joke referencing cast member Jack Shep's famous impression of Diana last week.
Other sketches include one mocking British partygoers who drink abroad at British themed pubs, and another where Jools Holland is framed in a horror-tinged setting.
The release of this episode was met with a mixed reaction from viewers, with one saying that they were surprised by "how funny" the debut was, adding it was “such a shame then to see the second episode be exactly what I had originally feared the show would be: weak, ineffectual, throwing out current references without any real joke attached”.
“Found it started strong this week and then just kinda dropped in quality,” another added. “I don’t mind that, it’s a sketch show and I’m not going to like everyone but as a whole the show has been a hit for me".
Another viewer wrote: “Really want this to do well but second ep was quite average. Where’s the energy and randomness of Ep.1?!”.
However, the comments were not all negative, with one fan offering a ray of hope, saying the show “has good potential so far” and that viewers should “give it a chance”, adding: “Some episodes will be average. It’ll get better once they find their rhythm".
Another viewer felt the latest episode was "much funnier" than last week, commenting: “The cold open with Andrew was hilarious, and the musical number was such a breath of fresh air compared to the American reliance on impressions".
Saturday Night Live UK continues this week, with Riz Ahmed acting as guest host, with Kasabian as musician guest.
