Prince Harry joined a host of celebrities to witness a historic moment in American basketball as the New York Knicks secured their first NBA Championship in more than five decades.

The Duke of Sussex, 41, was among the spectators at Game Five of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs. Seated just a few rows from the court, Harry watched the Knicks clinch the title with a hard-fought 94-90 victory, ending a championship drought that stretched back to 1973.

The royal attended the game in San Antonio alongside US Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient JP Lane. The pair were seated near NBA Commissioner Adam Silver as thousands of fans celebrated the long-awaited triumph.

Harry was already in Texas for the Warrior Games, a sporting event organised by the US government for wounded, injured and ill military personnel. His appearance at the NBA Finals came during his visit to support competitors taking part in the annual event

The duke was joined by several well-known figures from the entertainment world. Among those spotted at the game were actress Sydney Sweeney, music executive Scooter Braun, actor Timothée Chalamet and comedian and actor Ben Stiller, all of whom were there to witness the Knicks' historic success.

Harry's attendance at the championship game took place just hours after King Charles III marked his official birthday in the United Kingdom with the annual Trooping the Colour ceremony. The event, renowned for its military pageantry and precision, showcased the ceremonial excellence of the British Army in central London.

While Harry was in Texas, senior members of the Royal Family gathered in the capital for the celebrations. The King was joined by Queen Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and their children. Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis watched the proceedings from a first-floor window overlooking Horse Guards Parade, offering them a prime view of the military spectacle.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and the couple's children did not accompany Harry to the basketball game. However, the Duke and Duchess have frequently attended major sporting events since relocating to the United States in 2020. Earlier this year, the couple were seen at the NBA All-Star Game, continuing their interest in high-profile sporting occasions.
