Whoopi Goldberg has once again sparked conversation with her candid views on relationships, revealing that she still enjoys the freedom of casual dating at the age of 70.

Speaking on The View, the long-time co-host said: “I bar hop, I go hang and I do hit and runs when I need it. I am not married to anybody, I don’t have responsibility.”

Her remarks underline a perspective she has openly shared for years — that traditional relationships are not essential to her happiness.

Fans were quick to express how much they appreciate Goldberg's transparency on traditionally taboo subjects like relationships in older generation and casual sex.

One said: 'I loved that she kept it real.' Another chimed in: 'Whoopi keeps her private stuff private and I respect that. Every once in awhile she gives a glimpse like this. "I do a hit and run when I need too."'

Goldberg's relatable comment prompted some users to share their own stories. One wrote: 'I’m divorced and happily single. I don’t feel the need to be married again or be in a relationship. It’s not for everyone, but for me it’s bliss.'

Goldberg, one of the most recognisable figures in American entertainment, rose to global fame through both comedy and film.

She remains one of the few performers to achieve EGOT status — winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award — with standout roles in films such as The Color Purple, which earned her an Oscar nomination, and Ghost, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

For many viewers, she is also closely associated with Sister Act, a hugely popular comedy that has remained a cultural staple for decades.

In more recent years, Goldberg has become a daily presence on The View, where she has served as a moderator since 2007.

The panel show regularly tackles social issues, relationships, and cultural debates — making it a natural platform for her frank discussions about personal choices and independence.

Her latest comments came during a conversation about whether people in long-term relationships ever miss being single, prompting a lively exchange with co-hosts including Sara Haines.

Goldberg’s stance is not new. She has consistently spoken about her preference for independence over traditional partnership, previously explaining in an interview that she realised not everyone is “cut out” for long-term relationships.

“In the last 25 years, I recognized that not everybody’s cut out to be in a relationship. Some people are just cut out to be one-night stands,” she said. She added that while she values the people in her life, she has no desire to share her living space or daily routine with a partner.

Her openness about this topic has often set her apart from many of her peers, particularly in an industry where long-term relationships are frequently emphasised.

Instead, Goldberg has framed her lifestyle as a conscious choice rooted in self-awareness and personal comfort, rather than circumstance.

Over the years, she has spoken about her past marriages and relationships, explaining that she ultimately found greater contentment outside of that structure.

Beyond her personal life, Goldberg has remained active across television and film, continuing her long-running role on The View while also pursuing acting and producing projects.

She has also been involved in stage work and is set to reprise one of her most famous roles in a new instalment of the Sister Act franchise, highlighting her enduring presence in the entertainment industry.

Her latest comments have once again drawn attention not just because of their bluntness, but because they challenge conventional expectations around ageing, relationships, and independence.

As Goldberg herself has made clear over the years, her approach is less about defying norms and more about living in a way that suits her — even if that means embracing a lifestyle that continues to surprise audiences.
