Black appeared on 'Late Night With Seth Meyers' on Tuesday night, during this appearance he took time to pay tribute to late Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner. Black stated that it would "feel weird" if he didn't mention the impact that Rob Reiner had on his career as it was just days after his tragic death.
“I don’t really want to talk about anything other than Rob Reiner because he was such an incredible inspiration to me,” said Black. Rob Reiner was known for directing the iconic movies 'This is Spinal Tap', 'When Harry Met Sally', and 'The Princess Bride' among others.
“There is no Tenacious D without Spinal Tap,” Black said. “And anyone out here, any of the young millennials that haven’t seen Spinal Tap do yourself a favor. There’s no School of Rock without Spinal Tap,” he continued.
“I love so many of his movies. It’s like an incredible oeuvre of films that he made. What a genius, I just wanted to really quick give a shout-out to one of the biggest inspirations of my life and send love to the universe to one of the greats. He brought so much joy,” Black said.
Black has joined many celebrities in celebrating the work of Rob Reiner and paying their respects to him and his wife Michele.
The 'Harry Met Sally' actress, Meg Ryan posted a tribute to Instagram, she said: “Oh how we will miss this man…Thank you, Rob and Michelle [sic], for the way you believe in true love, in fairy tales, and in laughter. Thank you for your faith in the best in people, and for your profound love of our country, I have to believe that their story will not end with this impossible tragedy, that some good may come, some awareness raised… I don’t know, but my guess is that they would want that to be hopeful and humane, to be something that brings us all to a greater understanding of one another and to some peace."
Ryan's co star, Billy Crystal joined her by saying that "His comedic touch was beyond compare, his love of getting the music of the dialogue just right, and his sharpening of the edge of a drama was simply elegant,” it read. “For the actors, he loved them. For the writers he made them better. His greatest gift was freedom. If you had an idea, he listened, he brought you into the process. They always felt they were working as a team. To be in his hands as a film-maker was a privilege but that is only part of his legacy.”
Reports have concluded that Rob and Michele Reiner died due to "multiple sharp force injuries" according to new records released by LA County medical examiner. Their deaths have been determined as a homicide. 32 year old Nick Reiner, son of Rob Reiner, has been charged with two counts of first degree murder after Rob and Michele were found dead in their home on Sunday.
