Susan Boyle's life and career is to be celebrated in a new documentary coming to the BBC later this year.

The documentary, There's Only One Susan Boyle, will feature on BBC One Scotland and iPlayer as part of the festive schedule, and will include an interview with the singer, as well as contributions from her family and friends.

The programme will be spearheaded by Tern TV, documenting Boyle's childhood in Blackburn, West Lothian, right through to the audition which launched her subsequent career  in music.

Susan Boyle, burst onto the scene following her audition for Britain's Got Talent on 2009, which saw her sing, I Dreamed A Dream from Les Misérables, a performance which stunned judges Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden, as well as becoming a sensation online, receiving 120 million views on YouTube.

2009 also saw her release her debut album, I Dreamed A Dream, which went to number one in the UK. She also released six further albums, with her most recent recording, A Wonderful World arriving in 2016.

"I’m delighted to be sharing my story in this new documentary with the team at Tern", Boyle said of the documentary. "My life changed overnight after Britain’s Got Talent, and it has been an extraordinary and unexpected journey ever since".

She added: "I hope the programme reminds viewers to stay true to themselves and follow their dreams".

Elsewhere, the commissioning editor for BBC Scotland, Heather Kane-Darling said: "Susan Boyle’s story is one of the most remarkable and uplifting to come out of Scotland in recent decades.

"From a small town in West Lothian to stages around the world, her journey has inspired millions", she added. "This warm, honest and entertaining portrait of a truly unique Scottish talent will be a festive treat for our audiences".

There's Only One Susan Boyle will air on the BBC on December 31. (All quotes in this piece according to RTÉ).

Back in May, Simon Cowell admitted that he and the rest of the judging panel on Britain's Got Talent looked "awful" and "horrible" during Susan Boyle's famous BGT audition, calling it a major "wake up call". More on this from Nova here.
