Conan O'Brien has been confirmed as the host of next year's Oscars ceremony.

Emmy-winning TV host O'Brien will host the awards show for the first time, succeeding former presenter Jimmy Kimmel, following his two year reign. O'Brien will host the 97th Academy Awards on Sunday 2 March 2025.

Confirming this news last Friday, Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang, released this statement.

"We are thrilled and honored to have the incomparable Conan O'Brien host the Oscars this year", they said. "He is the perfect person to help lead our global celebration of film with his brilliant humor, his love of movies, and his live TV expertise".

"His remarkable ability to connect with audiences will bring viewers together to do what the Oscars do best - honor the spectacular films and filmmakers of this year".

Oscars executive producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan also added: "Conan has all the qualities of a great Oscars host - he is incredibly witty, charismatic and funny and has proven himself to be a master of live event television".

"We are so looking forward to working with him to deliver a fresh, exciting and celebratory show for Hollywood’s biggest night".

"I'm hosting the Oscars"

Conan O'Brien will host the awards ceremony, having been best known for his work as host of late-night talk shows, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Conan, and The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien.

Reacting to the news, Conan O'Brien added: "America demanded it and now it's happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. In other news, I’m hosting the Oscars".

Prior to his career as a presenter, Conan O'Brien is also renowned as a writer for Saturday Night Live, and The Simpsons.

The 97th Academy Awards will take place on 2 March 2025 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
