Love Island has been hit with 186 complaints to Ofcom after viewers raised concerns about the behaviour of some male contestants, including backlash over a controversial kiss involving Tommy Murphy.

The complaints were lodged during a week that saw growing criticism from fans on social media, with many viewers accusing some of the boys in the villa of displaying misogynistic behaviour towards the female Islanders.

According to reports, a significant number of the complaints centred on Tommy, whose interactions with several contestants sparked debate among viewers.

This is not the first time waves of viewers have registered complaints with Ofcom for the contestants' poor behaviour.

Earlier this year, it was revealed Ofcom had rejected over 14,000 complaints over alleged bullying on the earlier season.

While complaints to Ofcom do not automatically result in an investigation, the regulator assesses all submissions before deciding whether further action is required.

The controversy followed scenes in which the Newcastle-based builder kissed both Namibia and Ellie on the same night before later attempting to kiss Priya.

Many viewers were particularly uncomfortable with Tommy's pursuit of Namibia during a conversation that ultimately led to a kiss, with some fans claiming the moment appeared "forced".

The reaction quickly spread across social media, where viewers voiced concerns about the dynamics between some of the male and female contestants in the villa.

According to Ofcom, a total of 186 complaints were received relating to episodes broadcast during the week. The broadcasting regulator told The Sun that the majority of complaints focused on allegations of misogynistic behaviour towards female contestants.

The latest controversy comes during what has already been a dramatic series for the ITV2 dating show, with viewers regularly taking to social media to debate contestants' actions and relationships.

Neither ITV nor Love Island producers have publicly commented on the complaints.
