A major Garda operation targeting a burglary gang led to a large scale manhunt through West Dublin on Thursday.
This happened after Gardaí had moved to stop a silver Volvo S40 on the M50, as part of what they described as a "managed containment operation".
The operation led to the arrest of four men, after specialist and plain clothes Garda units were deployed, while the Garda Air Support Unit helicopter were used as the search spread through the Chapelizod area. Three of the men were reportedly aged in their 20s, and one in their 40s.
It was reported that the vehicle and occupants were under investigation in connection to several burglaries and similar incidents across the country.
According to reports in The Journal.ie, the operation spilled over into areas of West Dublin, with several people who were being pursued fleeing from Gardaí. One man reportedly tried to enter the River Liffey in the Chapelizod as they tried to evade the clutches of officers.
Another man was also found on a local resident's home CCTV in Chapelizod during this operation.
This comes after a huge police presence gathered in the area, which included specialist and plain clothes units, with a garda helicopter deployed overhead.
After searching the Volvo, Gardaí confirmed that house breaking implements, gloves and face coverings were found inside, while false registration plates were also found on the car.
Gardaí have issued an appeal for information regarding their movements, and have shared a stock image of a similar silver 2006 Volvo S40, with the one being used in yesterday's operation by a dark grey's driver's side wing mirror and a yellow tax disc holder in its windscreen.
Any people who have information, are asked to get in touch with Dublin Crime Response Team (DCRT) on 01 666 9896, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
Investigations remain ongoing.
